About Me

Award-Winning Scottish Landscape Photography Prints

Ever since I was a child living on the edge of town, far up in the hills, I have had a deep love of the outdoors. There is a peace and calmness that comes about when walking through the landscape, often in typical dreich Scottish weather.

When my health deteriorated in the summer of 2014, I found relief in those brief spells whilst exploring our hills and lochs. As I would watch the light dance across the landscape, I would try to capture the palpable sense of joy I was feeling to allow me to share it with others.

The huge variety of forms, light and weather that Scotland gifts us creates a multitude of possible canvases. I am particularly interested in those fleeting moments as one weather system moves in and another moves off, that reveals the personality of the landscape. Where the light creates shifting patterns of drama or in some cases a sense of calm, as night turns to day or day turns to dusk.

I view myself more as an artist, rather than a photographer. The light is my canvas, the raw material with which to pay homage to the wonders of the natural world.

I was born in Glasgow, but grew up in Inverclyde and Ayrshire. I studied Fine Art Printmaking at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen before running a successful web marketing agency for nearly 20 years. After leaving the business, I bought my first camera mid 2014 and initially took up photography simply as a hobby to occupy my mind whilst I figured out what to do with the next phase of his life.

With no prior training or experience in photography (I barely knew how to use a camera at the start), in a very short period I went on to gain praise and many national and international awards for my work.

Highly Commended in the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015 & Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2016 competitions. Winner of the Sunday Post Iconic Scotland Photo Competition 2014/5. Winner of Scotland Magazine Photographic Competition 2015 and 2016. Commended, UK Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015. 2nd place in the 'Non Professional: Architecture, Bridges' category at the 2015 International Photography Awards.
